Neue Untersuchungen zur Pythaïs-Prozession von Athen nach Delphi

Abstract

­Die Pythaïs-Prozession ist ein athenisches Fest mit einigen Besonderheiten: Im Gegensatz zu den meisten anderen griechischen Prozessionen fand sie nicht periodisch statt, sondern wurde in unregelmäßigen Abständen und insgesamt betrachtet auch relativ selten durchgeführt. Dennoch besaß sie eine große politische Bedeutung, da sie die Führungsposition Athens und die Verbindung zwischen Athen und dem panhellenischen Heiligtum in Delphi hervorheben sollte. In diesem Band werden sämtliche zur Verfügung stehenden epigraphischen, literarischen und archäologischen Quellen zusammengeführt und neu ausgewertet, insbesondere das außergewöhnlich reiche Inschriftenmaterial aus der hellenistischen Epoche und der römischen Kaiserzeit, das hier erstmals in kompletter Übersetzung vorgelegt wird. Neben der Analyse und dem Vergleich der sich verändernden Teilnehmergruppen insbesondere in der hellenistischen Zeit steht die Rekonstruktion des für eine Prozession ungewöhnlich langen Weges von Athen nach Delphi im Mittelpunkt. Damit bietet der Band eine umfassende Rekonstruktion des Pythaïs-Rituals von der klassischen Epoche bis in die römische Kaiserzeit.
