Principales causas de mortalidad en Cuba. Año 2000

Abstract

Se realiza un estudio epidemiológico descriptivo con el objetivo de determinar el comportamiento de las principales causas de mortalidad general en Cuba durante el año 2000 y se comparan los resultados con los años 1970, 1981 y 1999. Se hizo una descripción del total de fallecidos por orden decreciente de las 10 primeras causas de muerte y se calcularon las tasas de mortalidad general por cada 100 mil habitantes, así como las tasas de cada causa específica según los grupos de edades y sexo más afectados. También se calculó la razón por sexo masculino / femenino para conocer el sexo que aportó el mayor riesgo de morir en cada una de las causas de muerte analizadas. La fuente de información de este trabajo fue obtenida del Anuario Estadístico de Salud del 2000. Hubo un predominio de la mortalidad masculina en 8 de las 10 primeras causas de muerte, excepto en la Enfermedad Cerebrovascular que aportó una razón de tasas por sexo de 0.9 y le siguió la Diabetes Mellitus con 0.5, es decir, las tasas de mortalidad femeninas en estas entidades fueron superiores a las masculinas. Los tumores malignos, la influenza y neumonía fueron las únicas entidades que incrementaron el número de fallecidos en relación con el año anterior. Debe-mos señalar que en la mayoría de estas causas de muerte, las tasas se incrementaron en las edades más avanzadas de la vida.Palabras clave: Mortalidad general, tasa de mortalidad general, tasa de mortalidad específica por causa, riesgo de morir.
