Especies vegetales emblemáticas del cantón Saraguro, Provincia de Loja, Ecuador

Abstract

Las especies emblemáticas son importantes para motivar la conservación de la biodiversidad de una zona. Esta investigación se de- sarrolló en 11 parroquias del cantón Saraguro, provincia de Loja, con el propósito de determinar las especies vegetales emblemáticas del cantón Saraguro para disponer de insumos que permitan visualizarlas en los planes de desarrollo y ordenamiento territorial (PDOT) del cantón Saraguro. Se aplicó encuestas estructuradas a 264 informantes de 11 parroquias del cantón. Se calculó el nivel de uso significativo (TRAMIL), para conocer la relevancia de las plantas en las parroquias investigadas. Se reportan 231 especies en 209 géneros de 99 familias. Las especies citadas para cada parroquia son: Saraguro 133, Urdaneta 95, Cumbe 77, El Tablón 62, Tenta 113, Celén 96, Selva Alegre 112, Manú 98, Lluzhapa 90, Sumaypamba 81 y Yuluc 52 especies. Del total de especies vegetales reportadas, 184 son consideradas comunes; 187 forman parte de la identidad de la población; 56 son utilizadas para diferentes categorías de uso; 28 han perdido su uso e importancia; 31 forman parte de los mitos, creencias e historias de las parroquias; 31 son conocidas por la población joven y, 76 podrían ser consideradas símbolo de las parro- quias. Las especies emblemáticas de las parroquias del cantón Saraguro son: Morella pubescens para las parroquias Saraguro, Urdaneta, Cumbe, Tenta y Selva Alegre; Croton wagneri en las pa- rroquias Sumaypamba y Yuluc; Oreopanax rosei de la parroquia Manú; Lepechinia mutica del El Tablón; Ageratina dendroides de Celén y Symplocos quitensis de la parroquia Lluzhapa.
