Abstract

Se caracterizó la madera de Anacardium excelsum (Bertero ex Kunth.) Skeels., Bursera simaruba (L.) Sarg. y Aspidosperma polyneuron Müll., especies que crecen en los bosques secos tropicales de la reserva los Besotes y Río de Janeiro en Valledupar en el Caribe de Colombia. En cortes transversales de la madera se comprobó la formación anual de los anillos de crecimiento. Las especies estudiadas mostraron poros solitarios, de diámetro pequeño y presencia de agrupaciones racemiformes, características asociadas con la conducción del sistema vascular y el mejoramiento de la conductividad hidráulica. A. excelsum, B. simaruba y A. polyneuron, mostraron anillos de crecimiento anuales, aunque su delimitación fue un proceso con dificultades. La madera de B. simaruba y A. polyneuron presentaron manchas de resina que dificultaron el marcaje de los anillos de crecimiento y A. excelsum mostró anillos poco visibles. Aunque estas condiciones dificultaron el análisis dendrocronológico, los resultados obtenidos confirman la factibilidad de diferenciar la anualidad en la formación de los anillos de crecimiento y revalida los paradigmas sobre la imposibilidad de realizar esta clase de estudios en los bosques tropicales.
