Characterization of patients older than fifteen years with reversible pulpitis

Abstract

Background: most of the dental emergencies are caused by pulpal and periapical diseases. Objective: to characterize the patients with reversible pulpitis who presented to the Provincial Teaching Dental Clinic of Sancti Spíritus from June 2018 to June 2019.Methods: a descriptive observational cross-sectional study was carried out at the aforementioned institution and during the period herein declared. The universe consisted of 334 patients who came complaining of odontalgia because of dental caries. The sample was made up of 205 patients diagnosed with pulpitis reversible. The following variables were studied: age, sex, associated risk factors, etiological factors and affected anatomical region. Results: reversible pulpitis were more frequent in the female sex (56,6 %) and the 30 to 44 age group (37,6 %). Transient acute serous pulpitis was present in 60 % of the sample. Dental caries was the prevailing etiological factor (92,7 %). 28,3 % had a history of caries as associated risk factor. The posteroinferior sector was the most affected one (50,7 %).Conclusions: the patients diagnosed with reversible pulpitis were characterized, most of them in the stage of transient acute suppurative pulpitis. Dental caries was present in the entire studied population.
