Vida útil, longevidad y causas de eliminación en vacas mestizas de doble propósito

Abstract

Para determinar la vida útil (VU), longevidad (LT), producción de leche acumulada (PLA), días totales en producción (DTP), número de partos de por vida (NP) y las causas principales de eliminación, se utilizaron registros de un rebaño de 507 vacas mestizas con predominio Holstein (MH, n= 120), Pardo Suiza (MP, n= 186) y Brahman (MB, n= 200). Los animales fueron agrupados de acuerdo al manejo en tradicional (I, 1977-1983) y mejorado (II, 1984-1991). Se utilizó un modelo lineal considerando el predominio racial (GR), manejo (M), nivel de manejo (A:M), época de parto (E) y GR x M. Se encontraron diferencias (P < 0,01) de GR y M sobre VU, LT, PLA, DTP y NP, siendo superiores para las vacas MH: 1252,0 d; 2406,2 d; 11279,6 Kg.; 1020,7 d y 3,2 partos resp; que para las MP (969,9d; 2131,8d; 7762,1kg; 778,4d y 2,8 partos resp.) y de ambas (P < 0,01) sobre las MB (536,0d; 1690,9d; 3467,1kg; 410,1d y 2,0 partos resp.) Para el tipo de manejo I y II, los promedios de VU, LT, PLA, DTP y NP fueron: 1266,2d; 2460,9d; 10019,3kg; 983,9d y 3,5 y de 572,4d; 1691,6d; 4986,5kg; 488,7d y 1,9 partos resp (P < 0,01). Por lactancias inferiores a los 100 días fueron eliminadas 16,8; 22,8 y 60,4% vacas MH, MP y MB; con tasas totales de eliminación de 23,7; 34,9 y 39,4% resp. La baja producción de leche y los problemas reproductivos fueron las causas más frecuentes de eliminación (62,1 y 23,3%) destacando en las MH los problemas reproductivos (40,8%) y en las MP y MB la baja producción de leche: 55,1 y 87,5% respectivamente.
