LA RELACIÓN SOCIEDAD - NATURALEZA EN LA SOCIEDAD DEL RIESGO: EL CASO DEL RELLENO SANITARIO "VILLA DOMÍNICO"

Abstract

El presente artículo se centra en los conceptos sociedad del riesgo y subpolítica, desarrollados por el sociólogo Ulrich Beck, en referencia a un caso concreto: la organización de un grupo de madres, autodenominadas "Las Madres de las Torres", a partir de la muerte de sus hijos generada por diversas patologías asociadas a la cercanía de un relleno sanitario en Wilde (Buenos Aires, Argentina). El relleno sanitario "Villa Domínico" funcionaba sin respetar las normas básicas de seguridad sanitaria, causando altos grados de contaminación del agua, el aire y la tierra que provocaron en la población aledaña enfermedades de diversa índole -desde asma hasta cáncer. A partir de esto un grupo de madres, cuyos niños enfermaron o fallecieron debido a las toxinas liberadas por el relleno, se asociaron para demandar al Estado el cierre definitivo del relleno y el tratamiento de los gases y líquidos tóxicos remanentes. El objetivo del artículo es analizar la formación de este grupo de madres como un agente legítimo de presión y demanda en un contexto de riesgo ambiental causado por el incumplimiento de normas básicas por parte de los responsables del relleno sanitario y por parte del Estado.
