Abstract

La presente investigación se realizó con el objetivo de determinar el efecto de diferentes niveles de humedad en el suelo sobre el cultivo del Guayabo (Psidium guajava, L.), var. "Enana roja" y su rentabilidad, se empleo el riego por goteo para reponer el agua al suelo cuando las tensiones de humedad llegaron a un máximo de 30 cb (tratamiento mas húmedo) o estuvieron en el rango de 30 a 60 cb. Durante los dos años de investigación se observó una acentuada respuesta de esta especie al humedecimiento del suelo, al comparar las épocas menos lluviosas del año con la más húmeda. Dentro de cada época menos lluviosa, las plantas que mantuvieron un mayor nivel de humedad (0¿30 cb), lograron de forma significativa, un mayor rendimiento (23,78 t/ha/año), número de frutos grandes (mayores de 100 g) y rentabilidad que las regadas cuando las tensiones de humedad del suelo se dejaron incrementar entre los 30¿60 cb. Se alcanzó una relación beneficio/costo de 5,02 en las más húmedas y de 3,85 en la menos regada, lo cual demuestra la conveniencia de regar esta especie en nuestras condiciones.
