The paper is focused on the main historical periods and tendencies in issuing bibliographic indexes as well as on the present-state bibliographic resources in Ukraine. The place and peculiarities of a bibliographic index in the system of information and reference service has been examined. Formation and issuing for public access of universal bibliographic reference electronic resources as well as realization of national bibliography formation projects, formation of reference electronic resources, making research catalogues, subject indexes and topical themes has been investigated. Statistics on publishing bibliographic guides in Ukraine in 2005-2015 has been analyzed. The conclusion is made that in spite of spreading and development of information technologies, formation of bibliographic and reference databases, the bibliographic index remains an important resource in the system of user-centered information-reference service.
