Gigantismo en una niña de diecisiete meses, presente desde la vida intrauterina

Abstract

Se presenta un caso de gigantismo pituitario en una niña de diecisiete meses nacida de embarazo a término, por operación cesárea, pesando 7.750 kilogramos y que midió 65 centímetros. Por la historia se presume que el crecimiento exagerado comenzó ya durante el tercer mes del embarazo. Al examen físico un aspecto algo monstruoso, gigante. Mide 103 centímetros (promedio normal: 77 centímetros) y pesa: 22.2 kilogramos (promedio normal: 10 kilogramos). El desarrollo corporal es disarmónico. Hay retardo psicomotor marcado. La radiografía de silla turca muestra desaparición de sus contornos y ensanchamiento muy marcado. Examen oftalmológico: atrofia de la mitad temporal de la papila bilateralmente. Se hace el diagnóstico de tumor eosinófilo del lóbulo anterior de la hipófisis. Se hizo tratamiento radioterápico de la hipófisis. con buen resultado inicial aparentemente. Se presenta un control y evolución a los 6 meses.
