
Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de corte transversal en el Hospital "Armando E. Cardoso", en el período de 1 año (Mayo 98-Febrero 99). Este estudio consistió en encuestar a 256 madres de niños con diarreas agudas con el objetivo de identificar las costumbres inapropiadas que aún persisten en el manejo ambulatorio de las enfermedades diarreicas. Al concluir el estudio se pudo apreciar cómo en el 56,3 % de los pacientes hubo mal manejo alimentario, además solo el 12,1 % de las madres buscaron orientación médica en las primeras 24 horas. En este estudio se pudo conocer que el 100 % de las madres saben que las soluciones de rehidratación oral (SRO) forman parte del tratamiento de la EDA, pero solo el 42 % conoce que previenen la deshidratación, además solo un 25 % conoce de otros líquidos que reemplazan el uso de las soluciones de rehidratación oralA cross-sectional study was conducted at the "Armando E. Cardoso" Hospital from May, 1998, to February,1999. 256 mothers of children with acute diarrhea were surveyed in order to identify the inappropiate costums that still exist in the ambulatory management of diarrheal diseases. A poor food management was observed in 56.3% of the patients and only 12.1% of the mothers looked for medical advice during the first 24 hours. It was possible to know through this study that 100% of the mothers know that oral rehydration solutions (ORS) are part of the treatment of ADD, but only 42% know that the drug also prevents dehydration. Just 25% know about other fluids that replace the use of oral rehydration solutions
