Inundaciones costeras en el Malecón de La Habana: Huracanes Wilma (2005) e Irma (2017).

Abstract

El litoral de La Habana sufre severas inundaciones costeras causadas por huracanes, debido a la posición geográfica de Cuba. Para mitigar estos impactos, se utilizaron herramientas numéricas avanzadas. En este estudio, se aplicó el Sistema de Ingeniería Costera y Marítima (SICOM), que combina modelos numéricos acoplados (Delft3D FLOW+WAVE, XBeach No Hidrostático e Iber). Los resultados identificaron áreas de mayor peligro, analizaron el comportamiento del calado en puntos críticos y detallaron el impacto espacial y temporal de las inundaciones. Esta investigación confirma que el Malecón de La Habana es altamente vulnerable a eventos extremos, lo que incrementa los riesgos de pérdidas humanas y económicas. Los hallazgos proporcionan información clave para la planificación de medidas que reduzcan los efectos de las inundaciones costeras.
