
La retro-innovación consiste en la reintroducción de técnicas y procesos tradicionales para conservar el entorno y explotarlo económicamente de manera sostenible. En el caso de las dehesas extremeñas y los montados portugueses, existen antecedentes de explotación racional y sostenible, llevada a cabo por los monjes jerónimos del Monasterio de Guadalupe entre los años 1389 y 1835. Aplicando sus técnicas y procesos en algunas de las actuales dehesas extremeñas, se ha conseguido hacer viable su aprovechamiento económico sostenible.
