ARQUEOLOGIA FORENSE

Authors: John Hunter;

ARQUEOLOGIA FORENSE

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article presents the main issues related to the contribution of archaeology in criminal investigation. Forensic archaeology is related to the application of the archaeological theory, methods and techniques in investigative procedures within modern crime scenes or in archaeological contexts. Questions about the presence of a burial of archaeological or criminal nature, whether or not forensic interest, represent a problem. Fortuitous discoveries of pits or during forensic investigations can result in remaining current crimes or prehistoric burials and purpose of archeology is to answer these questions by digging and understanding of the formation processes of the archaeological or forensic deposit. The author presents these two di*erent situations and their key issues, presenting a chapter of a manual of forensic archaeology in progress. Keywords: Forensic archaeology; Criminal investigation; Archaeological methods; Human burials; Crime scenes.
