
Ernesto Cardenal nació en Granada (Nicaragua) en 1925, y murió en Managua el año 2020. El monasterio trapense de Getsemani (Kentucky) albergó a E. Cardenal durante el noviciado de éste, y goza de importancia en Norteamérica, sin duda por razones religiosas, pero también por vocaciones muy variadas, por industrias que allí se elaboran, y por haber morado en él personas importantes. Una de ellas el monje Thomas Merton, quien ahí es nombrado constantemente.
