Abstract

Автор статьи показывает некоторые проблемы, с которыми сталкивается население Центральной Азии в период сталинской модернизации в 1920-30-е гг. Целью новой программы стало полное изменение образа жизни местного населения, которое приводит к его бегству на территорию Китая. Документы, найденные автором в архиве Британской библиотеки дат картину взаимоотношений населения Центральной Азии, китайских властей и советского правительства по этой проблеме. «Кашгарский дневник», написанный сотрудниками английского посольства, добавляет интересные детали к этой проблеме.
