Riacho do Cavouco: um patrimônio natural e cultural

Abstract

As cidades contemporâneas são palco de complexos problemas sociais, econômicos e ambientais, consequência de uma urbanização intensa ocorrida após a década de 1950 que reduziu os cursos d’água e comprometeu sua qualidade, contribuindo para a deterioração dos rios e riachos urbanos. Esse fato evidencia a percepção utilitarista dos recursos naturais por parte de agentes da gestão, não reconhecendo corpos hídricos como patrimônio. Sob essa perspectiva, objetivou-se compreender o processo de gestão da conservação dos valores das águas a partir da análise de um trecho do Riacho do Cavouco, um dos afluentes do Capibaribe, um dos principais rios do estado de Pernambuco. Para tanto, buscou-se entender como o riacho se insere na malha hídrica e urbana; identificar os principais agentes institucionais e grupos sociais envolvidos em sua gestão e apreender a percepção dos diversos atores por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, identificando os principais valores naturais e socioculturais atribuídos. Deste modo, foi possível formular recomendações visando contribuir no processo de gestão da conservação do Cavouco enquanto patrimônio natural e cultural. DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3612323
