Abstract

A partir da análise do discurso do livro Despertar (2015), de Sam Harris, e da discussão de conceitos como “espiritualidade” e “religião”, o autor aborda as consequências das ideias do Neoateísmo, principalmente sobre a necessidade cientificamente determinada de se abandonar a religião. O pensamento de Sam Harris é comparado com as ideias de René Descartes e de Hannah Arendt. Com isso, aborda-se a cientificidade do livro Despertar e as consequências de suas ideias, que podem ser consideradas autoritárias sob o crivo de Hannah Arendt. Assim, buscando exemplos nos quais espiritualidade é tratada cientificamente, propõe-se um diálogo mais amplo entre os conhecimentos teológicos e os conhecimentos científicos
