Abstract

Fundamentación: La estomatitis subprótesis se caracteriza por una lesión eritematosa donde siempre está presente la inflamación. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de la estomatitis subprótesis en la cínica «las Margaritas». Método: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, longitudinal y prospectivo en el sector No.2 perteneciente a la clínica «Las Margaritas», del municipio Carirubana, estado Falcón, Venezuela, desde enero de 2006 a agosto de 2007. El universo del estudio estuvo constituido por 340 pacientes portadores de prótesis y la muestra por 112 individuos que se le diagnosticó la afección. Resultados: El sexo más afectado fue el femenino y se presentó más en el grupo de edades de 45 a 54 años, seguida del de 35 a 44 años.Se encontró que el grado de la lesión que predominó fue el grado II, principalmente en los pacientes con un período de uso de la prótesis de seis a diez años, seguido de 20 enfermos que llevaban de uno a cinco años. Conclusiones: De los afectados 91 de ellos dormían con la prótesis y el grado que predominó en ellos fue el grado II.
