Abstract

Se expone el mecanismo de secreción de prolactina (PRL) con especial atención al efecto de la dopamina (DA) como agente neurotransmisor. El hecho que la secreción de PRL es modificada por medicamentos que actúan al nivel de los receptores de DA en el sistema nervioso central ha abierto nuevas perspectivas en el tratamiento de los síndromes de dependencia de la PRL. Se explica el mecanismo de acción de este lactógeno haciéndose una revision de los síndromes de hyperprolactinemia, que se acompañan de lactación patológica e infertilidad. La introducción de la bromocriptina (Parlodel) en el tratamiento de estos síndromes ha constituído un avance considerable en la clinica reproductiva al inhibir esta substancia selectivamente la secrecion de PRL. Se presentan los resultados clínicos de esta terapêutica: la supresión de PRL en estados de hiperprolactinemia hace cesar la lactación patológica y restituye la fertilidad.
