Terapia nutricional para el acné

Abstract

El acné es una enfermedad cutánea multifactorial que afecta la unidad pilosebácea en su estructura y función. Esta alteración se evidencia clínicamente en la aparición de comedones, pápulas, pústulas, nódulos, quistes, abscesos y flemones, los cuales pueden ocasionar secuelas permanentes según su gravedad. Desde los años 70 se viene debatiendo sobre la relación de la alimentación con las enfermedades inflamatorias de la piel, como el acné. Inicialmente, esto se fundamentó en las observaciones de la incidencia de esta enfermedad en las poblaciones cuya alimentación se caracteriza por bajo consumo de frutas, verduras y granos enteros. En diversos estudios, como el de Cordain, et al., se ha demostrado que en ciertas poblaciones no se presenta esta enfermedad (indígenas, jóvenes de Papúa, Nigeria y Gana). Según dicho estudio, podría deberse a factores genéticos, alimentarios y a una taza mayor de actividad física.
