Trastornos temporomandibulares en la mujer climatérica de edad mediana

Abstract

Introducción: el número de mujeres que llegan a la edad adulta es cada vez mayor, por lo que la menopausia y las modificaciones de la salud asociadas a ella son un problema de interés sanitario mundial. Objetivo: identificar la presencia de trastornos temporomandibulares en mujeres climatéricas de edad mediana (45-59 años). Métodos: se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo desde enero a marzo de 2012 en el Consultorio No. 1 del Policlínico Docente Universitario «Luis Galván» del municipio Centro Habana. De un universo de 427 mujeres de entre 45 y 59 años, se seleccionó una muestra de 200 pacientes. Resultados: de las encuestadas el 74,5 % presentó algún signo de trastorno en la articulación temporomandibular, el chasquido afectó al 34,5 % de ellas. Conclusiones: las mujeres en la perimenopausia y con una moderada severidad del síndrome climatérico fueron las más afectadas. Al aumentar la severidad del síndrome climatérico disminuyó la cantidad de mujeres libres de trastornos temporomandibulares.
