Abstract

Este artigo apresenta uma análise do conceito de lazer através dos significados incorporados ao longo do processo histórico, enfocando a memória cultural do início dos tempos e avançando para entender os princípios que impulsionam a construção do sentido do lazer na atualidade. Trata-se de um estudo efetuado por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica de viés histórico, analisando criticamente a contribuição de autores que contextualizam o lazer enquanto objeto de estudos. Nessa direção, inicialmente, realizou-se uma abordagem introdutória sobre a origem da palavra lazer, discutindo, sobretudo, a perspectiva histórica da temática. Posteriormente, foram apresentadas as definições e teorias do lazer de diversos autores e, em especial, a discussão promovida por Norbert Elias. Ampliando o debate, também foi exposta a abordagem de autores marxistas do conceito do lazer sob a ótica do capitalismo e da sociedade de consumo.
