Abstract

O artigo examina Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada, de Carolina Maria de Jesus, à luz da teoria de Walter Benjamin sobre o "fim do livro". A obra reflete o ambiente comunicacional de sua época, estabelecendo uma relação intensa com a cidade e os meios editoriais e midiáticos. A hipótese sugere que o livro é modulado por elementos que, segundo Benjamin, contribuem para o declínio da forma tradicional da obra escrita — representados pela metáfora das "nuvens de gafanhotos de escrituras". Esses elementos, ligados à técnica, às mídias, à história da escrita, à economia e à vida pública, contrastam com o projeto de Benjamin de crítica ao historicismo e ao racionalismo universalista, que produz textos sem corpo e sem lugar —opostos à proposta de Quarto de despejo.
