Monitoreo terapéutico de topiramato

Abstract

El Topiramato es una droga que ha demostrado ser efectiva en el tratamiento de diferentes tipos de epilepsia. Posee un perfil farmacocinético y toxicológico favorable que lo convierten en una opción adicional para el tratamiento de pacientes con esta enfermedad, cuando es asociado a los antiepilépticos de primera elección en los casos insufi cientemente controlados por estos. Además diversos estudios indican que el Topiramato también es efectivo en diferentes trastornos psiquiátricos. Para el Topiramato al igual que otras nuevas drogas antiepilépticas se hace necesario caracterizar con más detalles la relación entre la concentración plasmática y los efectos para recién poder establecer un rango terapéutico. Un método útil para la determinación de los niveles plasmáticos de este fármaco es la cromatografía líquida de alta performance (HPLC) con derivatización precolumna seguida de detección fluorométrica.
