Abstract

Dentre os pensadores ligados ao movimento comunista, Antônio Gramsci é possivelmente quem dedicou maior atenção às temáticas religiosas. Interessava-se em analisar o papel contemporâneo da Igreja e a relevância da cultura religiosa entre as massas populares. O presente texto procura, pois, retomar os principais conceitos deste autor â?? considerado um dos principais teóricos do marxismo contemporâneo â?? dando uma especial ênfase àsua compreensão da questão religiosa. Assim, busca-se problematizar o percurso teórico de Gramsci que em seus primeiros textos enxergava a religião como um fenômeno alienante e, mais tarde, em seus estudos posteriores, encara-a como uma força ideológica com poder de mobilização das massas oprimidas.
