
La lepra es una enfermedad crónica transmisible tan antigua como el hombre mismo. La Organización Mundial de la Salud ha desarrollado un programa orientado a prevenir, diagnosticar oportunamente y tratar de forma adecuada. Se realizó revisión bibliográfica, y presentación de un caso clínico de un paciente de 58 años, al cual se le diagnosticó lepra lepromatosa variedad nodular, siendo el primer paciente reportado en 2011. En el presente caso se describieron algunos apuntes sobre la evolución histórica de la lepra a nivel mundial y en Cuba.The leprosy is a transmissible chronic disease so old like the humankind itself. The World Health Organization has developed a program oriented to the prevention, on-time diagnostic and adequate treatment of the disease. We made a bibliographic review, and presented the clinical case of a patient, aged 58 years old, diagnosed with lepromatous leprosy, nodular variety, being the first patient reported in 2011. We also added some notes on the historical evolution of the leprosy around the world and in Cuba.
