Efeitos das Isoflavonas de Soja no Período de Climatério

Abstract

Em virtude da melhora nas condições de saúde pública, a expectativa de vida aumentou, e, consequentemente, número maior de mulheres alcança o climatério. Este é caracterizado por sintomas como fogachos, cefaléia, vaginite atrófica, infecções no trato urinário, mãos e pés frios, esquecimento e depressão. Com o intuito de diminuir estes sintomas tem sido utilizada a terapia de reposição hormonal (TRH). Entretanto, este método apresenta alguns aspectos negativos, prejudicando a saúde e a qualidade de vida das mulheres. Por esta razão, cresceu o interesse no tratamento da menopausa por meio de terapias alternativas, entre elas o uso de isoflavonas, que são fitoestrógenos com estrutura molecular semelhante ao hormônio endógeno. Com esta revisão bibliográfica buscou-se verificar os efeitos das isoflavonas contidas na soja no período de climatério. Alguns estudos demonstram que as isoflavonas diminuem os sintomas menopausais, tanto em intensidade quanto em frequência. Porém, em outras investigações verificou-se que a ingestão de isoflavonas por mulheres na menopausa não elimina o número de ondas de calor, mas reduz sua intensidade, dependendo da quantidade ingerida. Sabe-se, entretanto, das propriedades nutricionais desta leguminosa e seus efeitos antioxidantes, além de ser produto natural e livre de gordura saturada, colesterol e lactose, beneficiando o indivíduo de maneira geral.
