Abstract

Argentinian Ambassador in the Holy Seat replies to article by Dr Giovanni Armillota, proposed as a complement to his first article on the 150th anniversary of the onset of diplomatic relations, which was published in this journal, and vindicated a positive political reading of the history of bilateral diplomatic relations. In this sense, he proposes a rereading of the "foundational time" which bears in mind with the maximum possible accuracy historic as well as time-related conditionings in addition to ideological considerations. From his point of view, the author considers it possible to positively evaluate the government of Juan Bautista Alberdi and his writings on the political importance of religion which offered a clear articulate basis, focusing on the recognition of the Catholic religion as the most important religion as well as religious freedom. Ongoing revision and updating of these principles expressed in the National Constitution makes it possible to ensure their current relevance.
