Abstract

A transformação dos terrenos naturais, em função da sua utilização para agricultura e, principalmente, para dar lugar à construções, aumenta a parcela do escoamento superficial das águas de chuva que antes infiltrava no solo. Essa alteração do ciclo hidrológico, mais preocupante nos centros urbanos, afeta os cursos d’água superficiais e subterrâneos. Nos superficiais, as águas poluídas e o aumento do seu volume, com conseqüente transbordamento dos cursos d’água, são notados pela população e amplamente divulgados pelos meios de comunicação. Por outro lado, os problemas que ocorrem com o escoamento subterrâneo não têm a mesma repercussão. Baseado neste enfoque, este artigo descreve o impacto da urbanização na recarga do solo, mostrando as suas principais conseqüências e as formas de controle. Além disso, é apresentada a aplicabilidade dessas estruturas de recarga, sua concepção, seu dimensionamento, construção e sua manutenção, como forma de atingir o objetivo esperado sem poluir o lençol subterrâneo.
