
A finales del siglo VIII y principios del IX se observa una fuerte influencia proveniente del sur de Mesoamérica en el Altiplano Central, en aspectos como la arquitectura, la escultura y la pintura. Observando con mayor detenimiento la cerámica Azteca I y II, se nota que algunas de sus formas y diseños son similares a las cerámicas del Clásico Tardío, provenientes de la costa del golfo y de las tierras bajas mayas.
