Abstract

En el breve experimento del dominio tunecino parecen discernirse con sustancial claridad los impulsos y constantes, así como las contradicciones que caracterizaron la prolongada articulación y el fracaso del expansionismo hispano en Norte de África. Su análisis plantea cuestiones como el papel que jugó la lucha contra el islam en la definición de la vocación imperial hispana, las pautas de su crecimiento territorial y la individuación de prácticas de remodelación de las sociedades conquistadas. El estudio de este caso, un episodio sin duda notable, pero escasamente frecuentado por la investigación más reciente, ofrece así la gran oportunidad de rediscutir paradigmas historiográficos a menudo dados por asentados y de cotejarlos con las sugestiones de propuestas interpretativas avanzadas en clave global.
