¿Los Pirineos sin glaciares?

Abstract

El glaciar de La Paúl, situado en el Pirineo central, se desarrolla durante la Pequeña Edad del Hielo. Los documentos históricos, las ortofotografías, la aplicación de técnicas geomáticas y de sondeos GPR han permitido realizar el seguimiento del glaciar y reconstruir su evolución desde entonces. En el siglo XIX se inicia la pérdida de masa hasta su transformación en un helero. El glaciar pierde masa durante el siglo XX, pero en los años noventa se acelera la pérdida acoplada a la evolución climàtica antropogénica. En el siglo XXI se incrementa el ritmo de ablación y a partir de 2013 la sucesión de veranos cálidos y procesos de colapso del hielo abocan a la desaparición del glaciar y la permanència de hielo relicto
