Abstract

Foi sob a égide da clausura eclesiástica que a maioria das escritoras do século XVII produziu o seu trabalho literário, vivendo num período em que a ordem social patriarcal definia e impunha modelos de comportamento feminino, sendo o único verdadeiramente aceite e admirado o inalcançável exemplo de Maria (simultaneamente virgem e mãe). Por isso, é compreensível, como explicitaremos na análise do Memorial da Infância de Christo, que a figura da Virgem tome o centro do discurso épico de Soror Pimentel, figura essa dotada de coragem e santidade, através de um corpo santificado e por isso incorruptível, como um símbolo feminino de bravura e obediência, cumprindo assim requisitos básicos do heroísmo, agora sob a ótica de uma mulher
