The art question in the Spanish Civil War has been dealt with in various research papers, but to emphasize the music of the international Brigades is a contribution which has very little precedent. Joaquina Labajo, musicologist, has done the only research work that explains, from a sociological point of view, the role that the songs played among the brigade volunteers. These songs allowed, although not always to the extent desired, the creation of links that set aside social and cultural differences and promoted camaraderie. Experiences in our fratricidal war meant a flood of feelings that would find its most emotional expressions in these songs.
