Abstract

O implante coclear é um dispositivo eletrônico utilizado como parte dos processos terapêuticos para as pessoas com surdez, inata ou adquirida, do tipo neurossensorial de grau profundo, visando a possibilitar o acesso ao som. Para alguns, o referido aparelho corresponde a um recurso tecnológico capaz de ‘curar’ ou, pelo menos, facultar às pessoas surdas uma integração tangível com a sociedade majoritariamente ouvinte, melhorando a qualidade de vida do segmento em apreço; para outros, trata-se de um instrumento de controle e normatização, um recurso nocivo à comunidade surda, uma tentativa de erradicação do surdo, de sua cultura e de sua língua, a língua de sinais. No presente artigo, não se pretende defender ou criticar o uso deste equipamento, mas mostrar como ele surgiu, como funciona e investigar os efeitos de sentido produzidos sobre ele a partir desses diferentes lugares. Para tanto, utiliza-se neste trabalho o aporte teórico-metodológico da análise de discurso materialista proposta por Michel Pêcheux, na França, e por Eni Orlandi, aqui no Brasil. A partir deste investimento analítico, percebemos o discurso sobre o implante coclear como um instrumento de prática política em que há um confronto de sentidos e uma tentativa de produção de um consenso acerca do surdo e da surdez.
