Abstract

O artigo faz uma incursão sobre os pensamentos de Clóvis Moura e Florestan Fernandes. Para tanto, em um primeiro momento analisa pontos de convergência entre esses dois autores, especialmente a relação entre escravidão e acumulação capitalista; a importância do negro como agente dinamizador da ordem social escravocrata; e a interpretação crítica e materialista do mito da democracia racial. Posteriormente, são trabalhadas divergências entre eles em mais três aspectos: características da escravidão; o processo abolicionista; a emergência do trabalho livre. Essa abordagem é feita pela análise do cotejamento das obras do período estruturante de ambos autores, compreendido entre 1950 e 1970, com os seus últimos livros, publicados na virada da década de 80 para 90. Conclui-se que, a despeito das fortes convergências entre Clóvis e Florestan, eles apresentam linhas distintas para pensar as relações raciais, a escravidão e o capitalismo no Brasil.
