Imaginando el Estado. Diálogos en torno a la provincialización de Chubut / Imagining the State. Dialogues around the provincialization of Chubut

Abstract

ABSTRACT The process of statehood building during the provincialization of Chubut is marked by an institutional, political, regional, and identity-based strand, which relates to the various institutional forms that Chubut adopted, first as a national territory, then divided and converted into a Military Government (1944 -1955), and redefined once again in the institutional and geographical form of a province (1955). This story is the one that is presented and runs throughout the discussions at the Constitutional Convention of 1957, and it is also the one at work at the time of foreshadowing the new provincial State, prior to its formal institutionalization. Thus, in the origins of the provincial statehood it is possible to depict elements that conditioned the subsequent political development of the province and, in that context, the debate of the Constitutional Convention is particularly useful to approach to an understanding of State models under discussion in the early stages of the institutional life of the autonomous province.
