A Contribuição da Antiguidade na construção da Catalunha moderna (1814-1936)

Abstract

Através do interesse pela Antiguidade na Catalunha do século XIX e primeira metade do século XX, propomos abordar a evolução do patriotismo e a emergência do nacionalismo catalão. Para isso, analisaremos a percepção da Grécia e de Roma e o impacto da etnicidade nas sínteses historiográficas de V. Balaguer, A. de Bofarull e A. Aulestia i Pijoan. Todas estas contribuições precipitaram o pensamento de E. Prat de la Riba e do Novecentismo, movimento cultural que suscitou importantes reflexões sobre o classicismo na história e na cultura catalã por parte de arqueólogos (P. Bosch Gimpera) e historiadores da arquitetura (J. Puig i Cadafalch), bem como de medievalistas (F. Soldevila), jornalistas (A. Rovira i Virgili) e romanistas (G. Mª de Brocá). Como resultado deste processo, antes da eclosão da Guerra Civil, a Catalunha criou as suas próprias instituições acadêmicas e uma elite intelectual que confrontou os seus homólogos espanhóis e europeus.
