Complicaciones bucales asociadas a la erupción del tercer molar

Abstract

Introducción: existen hábitos alimenticios, mezcla racial y elementos de la herencia que conducen a la incidencia de la retención de piezas dentales, como los terceros molares que a menudo tienen complicaciones. Objetivo: explicar las posibles complicaciones de la erupción del tercer molar. Métodos: se realizó una revisión bibliográfica, entre diciembre del 2022 y julio del 2023. Fueron utilizadas las principales bases de datos de Internet. Se seleccionaron 39 referencias bibliográficas. Se consultaron además libros de texto y bibliografía básica. Se excluyeron aquellos que no dispusieron de texto completo, así como las monografías. Desarrollo: el tercer molar es el diente que con frecuencia no finaliza su proceso normal de erupción y presenta complicaciones: neuromusculares, nerviosas, tumorales, infecciosas, mecánicas y traumáticas. Puede ser sintomático o asintomático y desde la especialidad Clínica, se muestran dificultades. Conclusiones: es importante que los estomatólogos conozcan sobre las complicaciones de la erupción y en especial aquellas relacionadas con el tercer molar, porque son infecciosas, la más frecuente de ellas es la pericoronaritis.
