The present article is a continuation of our previous research published in 2019. It aims to describe the manner in which the authors/editors of several dictionaries of the Romanian language, compiled during the 19th and the 20th centuries, have resorted to cognitive metaphors and mental imagery in order to convey their understanding of language and its development. We have also paid particular attention to the significant shifts in the relationship between language, ideology and national identity as reflected in the prefaces to the lexicographical works we have examined.
