Chalmers Johnson is considered a great specialist in the study of Asia and, in recent decades, has been recognized as a benchmark in the analysis of United States’ foreign policy. He systematically denounced the harmful effects that imperialism and the weight of militarism have on the republican foundations of the government of his country. In the sixties, however, he addressed the subject of a social revolution from a functionalist perspective, to then delve on the aspects related to insurgent politics in Asian countries, a stance that led him to join the CIA. This article proposes a journey through this stage, marked by his interest in developing a theory of revolution anchored in Parsons.
