
This chapter provides an overview of the external characteristics of Crocodylia, their musculoskeletal system, locomotion, buoyancy, feeding and digestion. More details are provided of their thermal relations, their respiratory and cardiovascular physiology and oxygen transport, including its ontogeny. Salt and water balance is discussed, with a focus on the lingual salt glands and sense organs and reproduction are dealt with more briefly.
