
Cilj ovog istraživanja je ispitati razlike u osobinama ličnosti, stupnju roditeljskog stresa, percipiranoj socijalnoj podršci, depresivnosti i tjelesnom zdravlju između samohranih majki i majki iz potpunih (dvoroditeljskih) obitelji. Također, detaljnije se istražio efekt osobina ličnosti, roditeljskog stresa te percipirane socijalne podrške na depresivnost i tjelesno zdravlje samohranih majki.U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 472 žene, odnosno 236 majki iz samohranih obitelji i jednak broj majki iz potpunih obitelji koje su međusobno uparene po svojoj dobi. Prosječna dob uzorka iznosi 35.7 godina (SD=8.93, raspon dobi 18-62 godine). Sudionice su ispunjavale sljedeće upitnike: Upitnik demografskih podataka, Upitnik petofaktorskog modela ličnosti, Ljestvicu roditeljskog stresa, Ljestvicu percipirane socijalne podrške, Ljestvicu depresivnosti te Upitnik tjelesnih simptoma. Istraživanje je provedeno pomoću upitnika koje su ispitanice ispunjavale on-line, a kojima je prethodila detaljna uputa u kojoj je objašnjen cilj istraživanja te zagarantirana anonimnost.Rezultati pokazuju kako, u usporedbi sa majkama iz potpunih obitelji, samohrane majke doživljavaju veće razine roditeljskog stresa te percipiraju manje razine socijalne podrške iz svoje okoline. Samohrane majke izvještavaju o više tjelesnih simptoma povezanih sa različitim bolestima, o više depresivnih simptoma te o manjim razinama ekstraverzije. Rezultati provedene hijerarhijske analize pokazuju kako i roditeljski stres i percipirana socijalna podrška značajno doprinose objašnjenju tjelesnog zdravlja i depresivnosti samohranih majki. Što se tiče osobina ličnosti, kao značajan prediktor kriterijskih varijabli istaknuo se samo neuroticizam. Prosječni iznos primanja po članu obitelji značajan je prediktor tjelesnog zdravlja samohranih majki.
The aim of this research was to examine differences in personality traits, level of parental stress, perceived social support, depression and physical health among single mothers and mothers from two-parent families. Moreover, detailed investigation of the effect of personality traits, parental stress and perceived social support on depression and physical health of single mothers was conducted.The research included a sample of 472 women - 236 mothers of single family and an equal number of mothers from two-parent families who were paired with each other by age. The average age of the sample was 35.7 years (SD = 8.93, age range 18-62 years). Participants completed the following questionnaires: Demographic data questionnaire, The Big Five Personality Traits Inventory, The parental stress scale, The perceived social support scale, The depression and physical symptoms questionnaire. The survey was conducted on-line and it included a detailed note in which the goal of research and guaranteed anonymity were explained.Results showed that, compared with mothers from two-parent families, single mothers experience higher levels of parental stress and perceived lower levels of social support from their environment. Also, single mothers report more physical symptoms associated with various diseases, more depressive symptoms and lower levels of extraversion. The results also showed that parental stress and perceived social support significantly contribute to the explanation of physical health and depression of single mothers. Neuroticism is a significant predictor of single mothers physical health.
