Abstract

Chromatography is an analytical technique that allows the separation of complex mixtures based on physicochemical interactions of the analytes, entrained by a mobile phase. In the case of GC, an inert gas is used with a stationary phase contained in a capillary column, which is where the separation occurs. The analytes separate differentially and elute at different times, which is known as the retention time. From there they continue to the detector to be analyzed. For its part, mass spectrometry is an analysis technique that allows determining the distribution of the molecules of a substance according to its mass. The mass spectrometer is a device that allows the composition of different chemical elements and atomic isotopes to be analyzed with great precision, separating the ions of the substances based on their mass/charge ratio (m/z).
