Abstract

Maalaislapsuus on pitkään ollut monia suomalaisia yhdistävä kokemus. Toisen maailmansodan jälkeisellä jälleenrakennusajalla kolme neljästä lapsesta syntyi maaseudulle. Heidän kertomuksissaan lapsuus- ja nuoruusvuosien maaseudusta toistuu muita useammin yksi aihe: työ.Tässä luvussa työn läsnäoloa kertomuksissa ei ohiteta annettuna, vaan pysähdyn pohtimaan työlle kertomuksissa annettuja merkityksiä tarkemmin. Kysyn, mistä kirjoittajat itse asiassa kertovat työstä kirjoittaessaan. Millaisia merkityksiä työlle annetaan osana oman elämäntarinan tai laajemmin suomalaisen maaseudun tarinan kerrontaa? Lähestyn omaelämäkerrallisia tekstejä kirjoitettuna muistitietona, joka sisältää tulkintoja sekä menneisyyteen sijoittuvasta ajasta että kirjoitushetken ajasta ja tulevaisuudesta. Lähtökohdiltaan luku paikantuu muistitietoaineistoja hyödyntävään historiantutkimukseen – muistitietohistoriaan, sekä monitieteiseen omaelämäkerronnalliseen tutkimukseen.
