Estudio sobre algunas aguas minerales en el Ecuador

Abstract

Se analizan las aguas mninerales de distintos lugares del Ecuador como la fuente de Cachiguano, las de Cotacachi y las de Machachi. Respecto a la fuente de Cachiguaico, Dressel establece que genera un gran caudal de agua, siendo un depósito de aguas sulfaradas llamadas "glairina". También señala que tiene un sabor alcalino y no desagradable. Sin embargo debido a su fuerte olor se detecta la presencia de Ácido Sulfhídrico. Cerca de Guaranda, está la población de Salinas que debe su nombre a sus numerosas fuentes de origen salino y los pobladores aislan fácilmentes la sal de ellas. La sal obtenida de éstas aguas la han denominado Sal de Tomavela, que ha sido utilizada para el consumo por su blancura y por su propiedad curativa para destruir el bocio. Se describe otra fuente mineral cerca del pueblo de Cotacachi llamada "Yana-yacu" o el "tinte", es de agua limpia al salir de la tierra pero luego libera sesquióxido de hierro, loque la convierte en una fuente ferrugiuosa, muy utilizada para teñir los hilos y tejido de algodón. En Machachi se realizan estudios de la composición del agua en las fuentes: "Baño de la Marquesa", Fuente de Juan", Los dos saldos de la Calera" y la "Hacienda Tesalia". Lugares donde abundan las aguas alcalinas muriáticas
