Implementation of voltage source converter for power grids

Abstract

En el presente Trabajo Final de Grado se describen la modelización y el control de un Voltage Source Converter conectado entre una unidad de almacenaje de energía y la red eléctrica. Se estudian los diferentes subsistemas de control (lazo de potencia, PLL y lazo de corriente) que permiten el funcionamiento global del dispositivo. Para la modelización del sistema, se han utilizado controladores PI convencionales, de los caules se detalla la caracterización. El modelo comleto se ha implementado en el entorno de trabajo MATLAB Simulink, y se han realizado múltiples simulaciones para comprobar el funcionamiento del dispositivo. Finalmente, se han planteado situaciones que podrían ser problemáticas para el convertidor, como ligeros cambios de frecuencia o faltas por caídas de tensión. Se ha comprobado que algunas situaciones no suponen ningún problema para el VSC, mientras que otras requieren mejoras en el modelo original con tal de permitir que el sistema siga funcionando correctamente

En el present Treball Final de Grau es descriuen la modelització i el control d’un Voltage Source Converter connectat entre una unitat d’emmagatzematge d’energia i la xarxa elèctrica. S’estudien els diferents subsistemes de control (llaç de potència, PLL i llaç de corrent) que permeten el funcionament global del dispositiu. Per a la modelització del sistema, s’han utilitzat controladors PI convencionals, dels quals es detalla la caracterització. El model complet s’ha implementat a l’entorn de treball MATLAB Simulink, i s’han realitzat diverses simulacions per comprovar el funcionament del dispositiu. Finalment, s’han plantejat situacions que podrien ser problemàtiques per al convertidor, com lleugers canvis de freqüència o faltes per caiguda de tensió. S’ha comprovat que algunes situacions no representen cap problema per al VSC, mentre que altres requereixen millores en el model original per tal de permetre que el sistema segueixi funcionant correctament

The present Final Degree Project describes the modelling and control of a Voltage Source Converter connected between an energy storage unit and the electrical grid. The different control subsystems (power loop, PLL and current loop) that allow the global operation of the device are studied. For the modelling of the system, conventional PI controllers have been used, the characterisation of which is detailed. The model has been implemented in the MATLAB Simulink working environment, and multiple simulations have been carried out to check the operation of the device. Finally, situations that could be challenging for the converter, such as slight frequency changes or faults due to voltage drops, have been considered. It has been found that some situations do not pose any problems for the VSC, while others require improvements to the original model in order to allow the system to continue to operate properly
