Tutorias individualizadas de resilencia

Abstract

The number of people with mental disorders is increasing every year, especially in disorders such as anxiety and depression, both result in more than than 40% of mental disorders. The figures for children and adolescents are worrying. Worldwide, more than 89 million adolescent boys aged 10-19 and more than 76.5 million adolescent girls aged 10-19 are living with a mental disorder (UNICEF, 2021). International organizations such as WHO and UNICEF have highlighted in their latest reports the urgency of investing in the mental health of children and adolescents, and the importance of implementing prevention interventions that have proven to be effective in areas such as health, education and social protection. These interventions should focus on social and emotional learning and incorporate aspects such as emotional regulation, problem solving, interpersonal skills, mindfulness, assertiveness and stress management. This work proposes a prevention programme focused on the development of resilience with the aim of increasing the protective factors of adolescents and reducing their risk of suffering a mental disorder, through the development of resilience elements such as selfesteem, emotional intelligence and social skills. The project " individualized resilience mentoring" is based on the resilience building model of the little house, by Vanistendael (2008), and on methodologies such as positive psychology, emotional intelligence or coaching. This project, designed for students in the 3rd year of Secundary School, is structured in 8 individual sessions in which different elements are worked on, such as personal strengths, emotional regulation, the search for meaning, humour, the development of personal skills and the improvement of selfesteem. The "individualized resilience mentoring" programme is expected to reduce the number of students with mental disorders in latest stages such as high school or professional training.
