In this paper we propose a critical reading of the short story “Diario de un Canalla” (1992), and the novels El discurso vacío [1996] and La novela luminosa [2005] by Uruguayan writer Mario Levrero. By resorting to the protocols of the diary and the auto-fictionalization, Levrero breaks with its previous aesthetic principles associated with the onirism and the imaginative debauchery (Rama, 1972). The exile devoid of heroism, gallbladder surgery and the remains of the Uruguayan military dictatorship make up violence as the articulator of the texts. In this work we set out to account for the different writing operations through which a poetics of memory is expressed in the trilogy. We think it takes the form of metaphor of archive.
